"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...."
When the year 2020 began, we never imagined that our lives would change so drastically. But the pandemic turned everything upside down, not only for us, but for the vast majority of people. The restrictions during the pandemic forced us to work almost exclusively from home and stay in our small apartment almost 24/7. Only our cat seemed delighted about it.
We love Hamburg, but sometimes it feels like the noise of the city is crushing us. We long for peace and nature, but often the green places where we can relax are too far away. That's why we've discovered the cemetery near us as our new retreat, where we can come down from the hustle and bustle of the city.
There was something important missing from our life in the city. We longed for fresh air, exercise and a balance to our sedentary workday. And so, we were drawn out, out of the city. We wanted to go someplace where there were more trees than cars and where we could finally breathe freely again.
Ride Punk Ride
For the past ten+ years, we've been riding fixed gear and single speed bikes that are better suited for urban cycling. But when we rediscovered the outdoors for ourselves, we knew we needed something more suitable. We craved for freedom and adventure and wanted to leave the asphalt behind. Our search led us to gravel bikes, all-rounders for all purposes. After some initial difficulties, we finally found the right bikes and our love for being outdoors was sparked. Some time later we discovered the joy of bikepacking. We loved being independent and being able to make flexible and spontaneous decisions. It was as if we had discovered a new world for us.
Since Björn is working as a photographer since 2012, it was clear from the beginning, when we started to discover nature for ourselves, that the camera would become an indispensable companion on our bike tours. We wanted to capture the beauty of the landscape as well as document our new lifestyle.
Our mission
We didn't want to keep our experiences to ourselves, but started sharing them on Instagram. We decided to follow our own path and also to discuss topics that touched us emotionally, even if that meant that sometimes we might touch a nerve. After all, we want to have our own voice and not be guided by rules. We hope to inspire and encourage others to do things for the right reasons and not be constrained by unwritten rules. In doing so, it is important for us to show that it is not always about "Higher, Faster, Further" and that there is not one single definition of a cyclist. We want to show that it is possible to have new experiences on your own and share them with others, and that it is okay to turn away from society's norms and expectations and go your own way. At the same time, we would like to show that there are many ways to get involved with cycling and that it doesn't always have to be about performance and competition. Because we believe that all bodies are welcome on the bike and that there are no restrictions on who can or should ride the bike.
Hej, I am Jana
What cycling could mean for me, I could never have imagined before.
Living in the moment and being able to turn off your restless head is worth so much.
Hej, I am Björn
Who would have thought that a child who learned to ride a bike late and was once hit by a motorcycle,
becomes a passionate cyclist?
